“When I introduced the frottage process into my work, an obvious surface to ‘rub’ was tree bark and the large pines just outside my studio afforded that. I worked outside with rollers and brushes to begin the first group.”

“Moving into my studio to complete them, I began to add different kinds of grids and textures. The paintings related to my earlier printmaking work and are actually monotypes of sorts.”

“My paintings have always been abstractions that evolve from both external and internal forces. This body of work makes observations of contemporary society, particularly the ever-present ‘wall of sound’ and information existing in our culture today. Inescapable and invasive, this overload occurs everywhere like a stream of (Un)consciousness. Clutter filters into our consciousness and interrupts our thought-space. Titles like ‘Chatter’, ‘Too Much Information’, and ‘Overload’ explore this theme of an atmosphere that leaves one yearning for silence.”
